The Relay For Life is an American Cancer Society team event to fight cancer and celebrate life. Funds raised will support the American Cancer Society’s cancer control and research program
It’s an 18-hour event where teams of 8-14 people will take turns walking or running relay-style around the Westerly High School track… around the clock! Families, businesses, clubs, hospitals, churches, temples, and schools all organize Relay teams and raise money for the American Cancer Society. Each team member is asked to raise $100. Cancer survivors and caregivers will receive special recognition. Survivors will walk a special lap around the track. At dusk, a luminary (candlelight) ceremony will pay tribute to friends and loved ones who have had cancer. Thousands of local residents attend the event and over $2.2 million has been raised for the American Cancer Society in the past eleven years in Westerly.
