The Roots
Influential hip-hop band The Roots originally resonated more with alternative rock fans. Their major label debut album, Do You Want More?!!!??!, made waves with its mix of improvisational jazz styles, full band instrumentation, and hip-hop beats. Through much of the '90s and this decade, The Roots have influenced a broad generation of music fans, remaining at the forefront of their genre and performing as the house band for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. October of this year saw the release of their latest single, "How I Got Over", a more positive spin on the band's recent move into darker tones and heavy political themes. The Roots will bring their solid live show to 9:30 Club for two special nights this December, giving D.C. some power, perspective, and a ton of proper jams.
