Every city I've ever been in has a Ruth's Chris, but I've never been. I've always referred to it as Republican's Christ Steak House. Somewhere I collected the idea that it was the type of place you went to increase your chance of being seated next to G. Gordon Liddy or John Boehner. But during restaurant week my Longtime Dining Companion convinced me to lighten up and go once while they had a $30 steak dinner. I actually got the salmon, which was excellent, as I am told was the New York strip. In fact, of the 6 or so new places we hit that week, we were most impressed by the menu and portions R.C.'s offered. The interior was lovely and we were treated like just like customers who spend a lot more money. In fact, when one of the entrees was delivered late, they offered us a free round of drinks, which they really didn't have to. That was class. Part of me still thinks of Ruth's Chris as the place Rush Limbaugh goes to chew on the bones of the less fortunate, but when I go again I'll just order the terrific salmon.
