B.M.C. Durfee High School Student Government presents “Women that Rock”, a concert to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a foundation that supports breast cancer research. The event will be held in the Nagle Auditorium at Durfee, beginning at 7pm on Saturday, September 26, 2009. Admission is free; however donations to benefit breast cancer research are strongly encouraged.
The show will feature performances by local and national female artists. Rebecca Correia, of Rochester, MA and Nashville, TN, will headline the show. Her latest release, Soul of Me, was recorded at Sirius Studios in New York City. Also featured is Mia Boostrom, of Dighton, MA and recent quarterfinalist on NBC’s America’s Got Talent. Several Durfee students, including Giulia Khoury and Isabel Morimoto, will open the
show.
“This is our first effort on this scale to support a worthy and important cause. We hope, with a strong showing from the community, to make the event an annual success”, said Vice Principal Melissa Fogarty, co-chair of the event along with new Associate Principal Tracy Curley. The program will also include information on women’s health issues provided by health care professionals.
The concert is the first of the school’s Fall Concert Series. The series continues with CMT recording artists the Carter Twins on Friday, October 9, 2009 at 8pm.
